Manuel Vega v. United States

IFP petition · United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, No. 24-2300 · judgment March 21, 2025

Certiorari denied · October 6, 2025

Question presented

A court, in imposing sentence upon a criminal defendant, may include as part of the sentence a term of supervised release. If the defendant violates the conditions of supervised release, the court may revoke supervised release and require the defendant “to serve in prison all or part of the term of supervised release authorized by statute for the offense that resulted in such term of supervised release.” 18 U.S.C. § 3583(e)(3). If a defendant has multiple violations of supervised release, can the court require the defendant to serve in prison a cumulative total that exceeds the term of supervised release imposed for his offense?
