The Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment permits a state court to exercise specific personal jurisdiction over a nonresident defendant only when the plaintiff’s claims “‘arise out of or relate to the defendant’s contacts’ with the forum.” Ford Motor Co. v. Mont. Eighth Jud. Dist. Ct., 592 U.S. 351, 359 (2021). The question presented is: Whether, in a product-liability action, the plaintiff’s claims relate to the defendant’s forum contacts when the defendant manufacturer sells the product in the forum exclusively to corporate customers and prohibits sales of the product to consumers, and the plaintiff consumer acquires the product in the forum through the unauthorized, unilateral activity of a third-party retailer.
