Question presented
While appealing an Oregon Land Use Board of Appeals decision in the Oregon Appellate Courts, I, Paul Grimstad, have experienced several abuses of my constitutional guarantees to due 'process, equal protection under the law, and the right to petition government for redress of grievances because I was self-represented. These abuses also violated my U.S.. citizenship privileges for state courts to observe their own rules of procedure as well as laws under their jurisdictions. Because the abuses are systemic, they suggest unjust prejudice of attorneys over self-represented parties in Oregon's administration of justice. The abuses included the Oregon Appellate Courts: (1) denying me the ability to present oral arguments because I was self-represented; (2) burdening me with additional filing costs and administrative hurdles because I was self-represented; and, (3) issuing all decisions without opinion despite substantive legal questions and potentially considerable financial hardship being at stake. The Questions Presented Are: Whether the abuses I experienced in the Oregon Appellate Courts violated my constitutional guarantees to due process, equal protection under the law, and the right to petition the government for redress of grievances. Whether these abuses violated my U.S. citizenship privileges for state courts to observe their own procedural rules and laws under their jurisdictions.
